How much does one dental implant cost?

Around $4,000 for the whole tooth, post to crown, is the best-documented US figure (a 2025 phone survey; details on why quotes differ). A lower figure you may meet, $2,143, is a survey line with scope not stated; see what an implant quote includes. The estimator scales the figure to your state and adds extractions, grafts and scans.

Why do some sites say $1,500 and others $6,000?

They are often pricing different things. A low figure may cover the post only, while a high one may add the abutment, crown, scan, extraction and graft. See what a quote includes.

What does a full mouth of implants cost?

A fixed full-arch bridge on four implants averaged $15,176 per arch in the 2024 Synchrony study, with a range of $11,640 to $27,500 and state averages from $12,642 (Mississippi) to $22,989 (Hawaii) (CareCredit, Apr. 24, 2026). Both jaws means two arches. Details on the full-arch page.

Are implants cheaper than dentures in the long run?

For one missing tooth, a removable partial denture costs less at the start ($1,738 resin, national average). If it's remade every five years, its 20-year total passes the implant's somewhere after year 10 in our model. For a whole arch, a conventional denture stays cheapest even with five-yearly remakes; snap-in dentures cost more than a conventional denture but less than a fixed full-arch bridge at the start. The comparison shows the assumptions and lets you change them.

How long do implants last?

A 2012 systematic review found 95.2% of implants under single crowns still in place after 10 years, and 89.4% of the crowns (PubMed 23062124). Those are group figures; your own risk depends on health, smoking and care, which your dentist can discuss.

Does dental insurance cover implants?

Some plans do, usually as major work at around 50%, but the annual maximum caps what they pay. Most in-network maximums sit in a $1,000–$2,500 band, according to NADP figures reported by the ADA in December 2025 (ADA News). The insurance planner shows the effect of splitting treatment across plan years.

Does Medicare pay for implants?

Original Medicare doesn't cover implants or dentures, apart from narrow exceptions tied to covered medical treatment (Medicare.gov). Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits with yearly limits. See Medicare and Medicaid.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

Yes for implants, dentures and the extractions and grafts that go with them: IRS Publication 502 includes dental treatment and artificial teeth. Not for whitening, and generally not for purely cosmetic work (IRS Pub. 502). The 2026 HSA limits are $4,400 (self-only) and $8,750 (family), rising to $4,500 and $9,000 in 2027; the health FSA limit is $3,400 for 2026 and $3,500 for 2027. More on HSA, FSA and taxes.

How long does the whole process take?

Usually months, not weeks. The FDA says the implant needs several months or longer to heal into the bone before the crown goes on, and when a sinus lift or a ridge rebuild comes first, the AAP puts the wait for that step at four to 12 months on top. The graft page sets the steps out in a table; a long timeline can also bring a second plan year into play.

What's the cheapest way to replace one missing tooth?

On day one, a removable partial denture. Over 10 to 20 years the order can change, because partials are remade and implants rarely are; the implant, bridge and denture comparison draws all three for your state. If the tooth is still in your mouth, ask whether it can be saved, which that page also prices.

Will my plan pay for a bridge but not an implant?

Some plans exclude implants, and some pay toward one only what a cheaper treatment would have cost. The ADA's terms for this, and what they do to the bill, are on the insurance page.

Is sedation in the estimate?

Not unless you add it. The survey line for sedation doesn't say what kind it prices, so the estimator has a field for your own quoted fee instead; see why quotes differ.

Do I need a bone graft?

Only an exam and scan can tell. Grafts averaged $558 (socket) to $2,779 (your own bone), and a sinus lift $2,022, in the 2024 Synchrony study. See bone grafts and sinus lifts.

What do veneers cost?

In the 2023 Synchrony cost study (tables dated October 2023), composite veneers made in the office averaged $872 per tooth and porcelain $1,765; a set of six to eight porcelain veneers averaged $15,486 (sources). They are usually cosmetic, so insurance and HSAs generally don't pay for them. See veneers cost.

Can I still use my HSA once I'm on Medicare?

You can spend what is already in it on qualified dental work tax-free, but you can no longer add to it from the month Medicare starts. Details on HSA, FSA and taxes.

Is there anywhere cheaper to get dental care?

Federally supported health centers often charge by income, and dental schools treat patients through supervised students. Where the federal guide to both is, and what to ask, is on Medicare and Medicaid.

What if an implant feels loose later?

Tell your dentist straight away; that is the FDA's advice for an implant that feels loose or painful. The FDA also takes voluntary reports of implant problems through MedWatch, and the checklist before signing lists what such a report needs.

Is the estimator a quote?

No. It shows where published averages put your treatment, so you can judge a quote. Only a written plan from a dentist who has examined you gives your price.

Is anything I enter kept?

Only in your own browser. Nothing you tap or type is sent anywhere; the privacy page lists every stored key and how to wipe it.

Why no list of dentists or reviews?

We don't recommend practices, take referral fees or publish reviews. Your state dental board can confirm a dentist's license, and the questions before you sign help you compare offers.
